An impressive brick construction, this castle was built by Galeazzo Visconti between 1360 and 1365. The huge inner courtyard is home to arcades and a loggia with twinned bays. The castle houses the municipal collections, with a fine display of archaeological objects, sculptures and paintings. Note the sumptuously decorated ceiling in the Sala Azzurra and don't miss the Pinacoteca Malaspina with its many works by grand masters or the large wooden model of the cathedral (16C).
