Useful information

Description

The revamped square was unveiled in spring of 2013: shallow water basin, a hundred or so chairs and assorted tables. Children can hire games and toys at the kiosk ("R de jeux"). At the centre stands the colossal monument to the Republic, erected by Léopold and Charles Morice, and officially inaugurated in 1883. Surrounded by allegorical statues of Liberty, Equality and Fraternity, it traces the history of the Republic in France from the oath taken at the Jeu de Paume to the first national holiday celebrated on 14 July 1880.
