Head to Parangtritis, a favourite leisure haunt of Yogyakartanese and a major pilgrimage site. The 4km-long grey sandy beach is dominated by cliffs, but strong currents make swimming dangerous. According to legend, Senopati resurfaced at Parangkusumo (1km west) after a 3-day liaison at the bottom of the sea with Ratu Kidul, learning the sciences of love and power. Pools have been created at the hot springs site of nearby Parangwedang.
