Useful information

Description

The Morris-Jumel Mansion is one of the last reminders of the pre-revolutionary era. During the American War of Independence, in 1776, George Washington used this mansion, built eleven years earlier, as his headquarters. Built in the Federal style, the house was subsequently bought by the Jumel, a family of rich French merchants.
