Useful information

Description

Less touristy than Zipaquirá Salt Mine, Nemocón Salt Mine is also more focused on the technical, historical and scientific aspects of salt mining, which began in 1819 and ended in the 1980s. The galleries descend to a depth of 80m, as far as a small chapel dedicated to the Virgin of Carmen, patron of miners, and the Cámara del Pálpito de los Enamorados, a chamber where a large heart-shaped salt crystal weighing 1 600kg sparkles.
