Nakayama terraced rice fields
The Green Guide

Useful information

Description

In the northwest of Shodo-shima Island, near Nakayama village, these terraced rice fields clinging to the hillside comprise a peaceful landscape, far from the town. Paths make it possible to wander around the plots, the oldest of which are medieval. They are fed by a spring that emerges at the top of the hill. Nearby are a Shinto shrine and a small 17C thatched roof kabuki playhouse (performances once a year in October).
