Useful information

Description

Mozac, just outside Riom, on the edge of the Combrailles region, is the site of an abbey founded in the 7C by St Calminius. A church, built in the 12C on the model of Auvergne's great sanctuaries, was extensively rebuilt in the 15C. It is famous for its Romanesque capitals and elaborate bestiary (griffins, dragons, monkey on a rope) and its treasure containing the reliquary of St Calminius, thought to date from 1168, and a rare example in France of a painted reliquary - that of St Austremonius (17C).
