The museum is located in the Osterman Residence, a fine mansion belonging to the counts of the same name, who sold it to the Holy Synod after the great fire of 1812. Today, it houses some of Russia's finest examples of decorative arts: old toys, magnificent blue ceramics from Gjel in particular, Soviet-era, graphic and modern tableware, lacquered miniatures, costumes and tapestries. This fine overview of Russian arts and crafts is particularly worth a visit.
