Meimei-an Tea House
The Green Guide

Useful information

Description

Built on the top of a hill, this tea house was erected in 1779 in the garden of the home of one of Lord Matsudaira Fumai's (Grand Master of the tea ceremony) vassals. With its four-sided curved thatched roof and two gables, the tea house is a fine example of the architecture of the era. Restored and moved here in 1996, it often welcomes tea ceremony experts. You can pop in for a cup of matcha tea (without the ceremony) and pastries, while enjoying the view of the garden.
