Useful information

Description

At Pavillon du Grand Port, near the Church of N.-D.-du-Grand-Pouvoir on the left, you can see the remains of French buildings erected in the 18C on the ruins of Fort Hendrik, the island's first fortress built by the Dutch. The Frederik Hendrik Museum has a model of the site, objects found during recent excavations and panels explaining the period of Dutch occupation (1637-1707). Off to the right as you get closer to the water, you can see the Salle d'Armes, a little seaside cave where duels were fought.
