Description

Historically important as the last home of Louisville founder George Rogers Clark, this sweeping l790s homestead was owned by his sister Lucy and her husband, William Croghan. William Clark (George and Lucy's brother) and his partner Meriwether Lewis returned here in 1806 after their historic expedition. One of the first brick houses in the region, Locust Grove is distinguished by its paneled walls, built-in cabinets and its ballroom, which boasts extravagant 18C French wallpaper. Although few of the furnishings are original to the house, almost all are Kentucky-made, including the pair of andirons owned by the state's first governor, Isaac Shelby.
