Useful information

Description

Built in 1725, the hospital has retained its original wrought-iron gate, entrance and square courtyard. The central building in the courtyard is built in Palladian style with a frontispiece adorned with allegorical figures by Bacon. A bronze statue represents Thomas Guy (1644-1724), whose father was the benefactor of several medical institutions; a second statue of Guy, created in marble high relief by Bacon, can be admired in the chapel. Note the curious 18C stone alcove which once stood on the old London Bridge.
