Useful information

Description

In the 16C, Hackney was a country village where rich City merchants owned second homes. In the next century, its reputation came from its educational establishments for girls. At the beginning of the 20C, the Hackney Empire theatre, the work of Frank Matcham in1901, is a fine example of a music hall. The rococo auditorium is renowned for its acoustic excellence.
