Useful information

Description

The largest medieval monastery in Austria was founded by Leopold IV of Babenberg in 1202. Most of the buildings are in a transitional style between Romanesque and Gothic, with some major parts renovated in the Baroque period. The abbey church is the largest in Lower Austria (82m long and 21m wide) and is thought to have been built by stonemasons from Burgundy. The abbey cloister and library are also worthy of note.
