Useful information

Description

The Cistercian Abbaye de Vaucelles, founded in the 12C, surpassed all of its European counterparts in terms of size, but its vast church was destroyed during the Revolution. Here, monastic scribes worked on constituting one of the largest libraries in France, bringing together some 40 000 volumes in 1760. Now restored, the rooms are open to visitors and various events are held here. The gardens stretch over 7ha; 1 600 lavender plants mark the floor plan of the former church.
