Description
Sakamoto Ryoma (1836-1867) is a well-known historical figure in Japan. Born in Kochi into a samurai family, he played a major role in the anti-shogun movement that led to the Meiji restoration. At the same time, in 1865 he founded an import-export company, convinced that Japan must modernize in order to stand up to the west. He was assassinated in 1867, possibly by shogun partisans. Reproductions of letters, photos and objects relating his life.
