Useful information

Description

This graceful five-arched bridge, built by John Rennie between 1800 and 1803, served as a model for London's Waterloo Bridge, which, in return, inspired the shape of the lampposts at the far southern end, replaced in the 19C. There is a splendid view from the bridge up the slow-flowing River Tweed, taking in Floors Castle and its magnificent setting and, on the left, the mound of Roxburgh Castle. An elegant toll house still stands on the north bank.
