Useful information

Description

Stari Grad means "old town". Founded in 384 BC by the Greeks, nowadays it is a maze of flower-covered steps, carved balconies, vaulted passages and walled gardens (particularly the southern side). Make sure you visit Tvrdalj, the house of the 16C poet Petar Hektorovic and its superb garden. The Dominican monastery built in the 15C and 16C is also well worth a look, as is St John's chapel (Sv. Ivana), built in the 12C on the site of an ancient temple (note the 6C mosaics).
