An 83ft-tall Mercury rocket greets visitors to this Smithsonian affiliate, one of the premier space museums in the US. The highlight exhibit traces the history of rocketry, beginning with the landmark V-2 rocket of early Nazi experimentation, and carrying through the US-Soviet "space race" of the Cold War era. Numerous Russian aerospace artifacts are on display, along with the command module from the troubled Apollo 13 mission: Cosmosphere's Spaceworks made 80 percent of the props for the Hollywood movie. An IMAX theater, daily science shows and five-day space camps are also offered.
