Description
Horta bay is protected by two volcanoes, connected to the mainland by isthmuses. The first one, Monte Queimado, dominates the port and is joined to Monte da Guia. From the summit of Monte da Guia, close to the hermitage of Nossa Senhora da Guia, you come to the Caldeira inferno, and old crater battered by the sea. As you make your way back down, you have a lovely view over the town and beach of Porto. The Porto Pim cove used to be protected by fortifications.
