Description

The inside of the Caldeira (400m high and 1 450m in diameter) is covered with cedars, ferns, juniper trees, box hedges, and some vegetation originating on the island of Faial. On the bottom you can make out the distinct lines of the old lake, which dried up as a result of the Capelinhos eruption... The Cabeço Gordo is a magnificent belvedere over Pico and São Jorge islands.
