Description
Located in the Atlantic Ocean and Biscayne Bay, Biscayne National Park is the largest marine park in the US. It was established in 1980 to help protect a 434sq mi area of coastal wetlands, mangrove shorelines, coral reefs and a string of barrier islands. The reefs are located about 10 miles offshore, where the warm Gulf Stream currents nurture some 50 species of living coral. Those wishing to explore the reefs can go on boat tour organized by the park or rent scuba and snorkeling gear.
