Useful information

Description

Jean Sibelius (1865-1957) is Finland's great musical figure. His career began under the auspices of National Romanticism, notably illustrated in his adaptation of the Kalevala and in his symphonic poem Finlandia. He subsequently progressed towards Modernism. In the centre of the park, his bust stands alongside an imposing non-figurative sculpture (1967) by Eila Hiltunen: over 600 steel tubes make up a giant organ that sings along with the rustle of nearby birches when the wind blows.
