Hattula Church
The Green Guide

Useful information

Description

Dating from the 15C, Hattula's brick church is a fabulous example of a Finnish medieval church. The 16C frescoes and wall paintings mainly illustrate scenes from the Life of Christ. They resemble those in Lohja's church and have features in common with the work of Swedish master Albertus Pictor. In addition, note the wooden sculptures, in particular the triumphal cross and the Christ Carrying the Cross group, thought to date from the 16C.
