The nature reserve is named after the site's impressive yakusugi - a distinction earned by giant Japanese cedar trees when they have lived for over 1 000 years. Having to survive in difficult conditions, the trees have developed a complex network of roots in order to gain a foothold in the rocks and reach their venerable age! Some of the paths are not that easy to negotiate but on the way you will be rewarded by the sight of the 3 000-year-old Kigen-sugi.
