Useful information

Description

Hamilton's former water-pumping station, completed in 1859, now provides a rare example of 19C steam technology. The engine house contains two Gartshore steam-powered beam engines in full working order. They once pumped as much as 5 million gallons of water a day. The former boiler house hosts an exhibition on the use of steam power and a scale model of the beam engines.
