Description
Centred on Piazza della Signoria, the old town is charming for its steep, narrow streets (sometimes stepped) straddled every now and again by small bridges linking opposing residences. The streets, which are flanked by palaces and towers, have many traditional ceramic workshops. One oddity is that many of the houses have two doors, a main door plus a narrower one known as the "door of death" through which coffins were brought out.
