The foundation of this historic spiritual place of worship of the Orthodox church dates back to 1376-1386. The monks who lived here founded a school of copyists and sculptors. Today it is home to textile workshops which uphold the purest traditions of Oltanian carpetmaking. The monastery had a rich treasury, some items of which are still visible in its small museum, but the most interesting are in the Bucharest national art museum. 16C frescoes in the church.
