Useful information

Description

Located opposite Beaverbrook Art Gallery, this elegant edifice (1880) was built to replace the former seat of government, destroyed by fire. The Assembly Legislative chamber, with its incredibly high ceiling and adorned with portraits (copies) of Queen Charlotte and King George III by Joshua Reynolds, is open to the public. The parliamentary library is reached by a magnificent central spiral staircase.
