Description
This former spinning mill, in operation from 1874-1978, houses the largest collection of weaving looms in France. Beyond a room devoted to the tragedy of 1 May 1891, when gendarmes opened fire on striking workers, is the great hall with its display of photographs and reconstructions of daily life: a hosiery workshop, the interior of a worker's home and a street with a bar... Have a look at the rifles hanging in the classroom, symbolic of France's "revanchard" period (1870-1914).
