Lankatilaka Viharaya

The Michelin Guide's review
Among the small temples to the west of Kandy, Lankatilaka towers above the rice fields on its granite plateau. It dates from the 14C. Its exterior architecture is in keeping with the tradition of the great gedige of Polonnaruwa, but its floor plan consists of a novel combination. In the image hall sits the stuccoed brick effigy of the Buddha. His finely pleated robe forming regular waves is indicative of Kandyan art. All around are oratories dedicated to the great gods that protect the island.
