Description

Parque Nacional Armando Bermúdez is home to three summits that peak around 3,000m: Pico Duarte, the highest in the West Indies, La Pelona and La Rusilla. Several major rivers rise on this face. The vegetation is comprised of Creole pine, cedar, walnut, olive and silver-leafed yagrumo trees. The forests provide shelter to parrots, crows, vultures and turtledoves, as well as wild pig and agoutis. Temperatures can drop to 8°C, but the annual average is 17°C.
