Useful information

Description

At a remove from the village, this formidable castle overlooks Ardoch Burn and the Teith. It was built in the late 14C by Robert Stewart, Duke of Albany and regent during James I's captivity in England. The strong point of the castle's defences is its keep-gatehouse. The fortress was also a noble residence, hence its apartments and storehouses being laid out to provide a level of comfort that was unusual at that time.
