Useful information

Description

It was under pressure from a Sikh chief who occupied the Red Fort in 1783 that Emperor Shah Alam authorised the construction of Sikh temples. Built in the late 18C, the Gurudwara Bangla Sahib is the largest of these and is striking for its intense devotional atmosphere. Prayers, prostrations and offerings are made ritually by the many worshippers who crowd in front of the Granth Sahib, the Holy Book. A small museum provides information on the history of the Sikh community and its 10 founding gurus.
