Cañón del Apurímac

Useful information

Description

For safety reasons, tourists are strongly advised to avoid this region. The Cañón del Apurímac is famous for its suspension bridge. Up until the 19C, people went over the precarious one made by the Incas out of planks and rope, taking travellers over the Río Apurímac at a dizzying height. Today the Puente Cúnyac, which replaces it, commands a fantastic view of the sierras, whose jagged crests stand out on the horizon, while the river can be seen winding its way through the canyon below.
