The original aspect of the abbey, framed by mountains and forests, has been restored to its former glory after 40 years of relentless endeavour. The abbey church, whose construction began in 1140, was in its time the largest in the region. It is close to early Cistercian art. Its pale stone architecture is striking in its bareness and the light and simplicity of its single nave. The chapter house serves as a reception area, while the former scriptorium and the refectory (17C) house exhibitions.
