Useful information

Description

Architectural "bad boy" Helmut Jahn, known for bucking accepted trends, designed this State of Illinois facility to resemble the domes often seen on government buildings. Be sure to visit the atrium, from which the glass lifts soar to the top of the 17 storeys, culminating in a "dome within a dome". The light that filters into the airy space creates an ever-changing interplay of light and shadow. Monument with Standing Beast, a curvaceous fibreglass sculpture by Jean Dubuffet, adorns the plaza.
