Description
One of only four works of architecture in the country to rate inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List, the university began in 1817 as Thomas Jefferson's retirement project, a carefully planned "academical village" that symbolises the boundless freedom of the human mind. Today the university ranks as one of the top universities in the East of the US.
