Whale Route
The Green Guide

Useful information

Description

Rest areas along the Whale Route between Cape Town and Hermanus offer a chance to observe the whales that come here to give birth. The string of sandy coves, beaches and seaside resorts is set against a backdrop of magnificent untamed landscapes. Take a break at Betty's Bay, with its penguin colony, and at the mouth of the Bot River home to wild horses. Along the way, the Kogelberg Nature Reserve have preserved a type of vegetation characterised by small scrubland bushes called fynbos.
