Useful information

Description

Founded at the end of the 11C by Lanfranc, this church received Henry II in 1174 when he repented for his part in the murder of Thomas Becket. When Thomas More, Lord Chancellor of England, was beheaded in 1535, his daughter Margaret, wife of William Roper, took the head of his father, which now rests in the Roper family vault inside the church.
