Description
Calinesti boasts two wooden churches that are very characteristic of the villages of the valleys of Maramures: the upper church which is still a place of worship, and the lower church, which, despite its name, is perched on a hill! The latter, a tiny building, has an external gallery forming a terrace (pridvor), typical of the region's churches. Don't miss the fine frescoes by Alexandru Ponehalschi, a veritable Biblical comic strip.
