The Backa rock carvings are located at the side of a country road. The first major carving that you come across depicts, among other images, a life-size silhouette of a man brandishing an axe. 600m further on, circles (solar discs) are visible on another carving. The sun and the cycle of the seasons are known to have been very important to the people of the early Scandinavian Bronze Age.
