Perched on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Dronne on one side and the village on the other, Bourdeilles castrum is both a medieval fortress (13C) and a pleasure castle. This remarkable edifice combines the military severity of medieval fortifications with the frivolity of the Renaissance. A maze of yew hedges and an elegant garden on the plaza round off a visit rich in history. The Renaissance lodge houses a remarkable collection of furniture.
