Useful information

Description

The square was named in honor of the victorious siege of the French fortress at Louisbourg (Nova Scotia, Canada) led by the Massachusetts militia in 1745, this enclave epitomizes Beacon Hill's refined lifestyle. The appearance of the elegant Greek Revival bowfront row houses and the small private park have changed little since their creation in the 1830s and 40s. Writer Louisa May Alcott lived in no. 10 from 1880 until her death eight years later. Christmas Eve caroling on the square is a cherished Bostonian tradition.
