Useful information

Description

This staircase with 187 steps cut out of the cliff (closed when the wind is too strong) was, legend has it, built by Alphonse V of Aragon in 1420 during his siege of the town. It's said that a courageous local woman saw him, and the town was not taken. In reality, the staircase preceded these events and was used to reach the well of Saint-Barthélémy, the town's drinking water reserve.
