Opened in 1827 after the cemetery in the Große Hamburger Straße became too small, the Judischer Friedhof (Jewish cemetery) has a charming atmosphere, with its dense vegetation and simple graves alternating with monumental tombs. The composer Giacomo Meyerbeer (1791-1864), painter Max Liebermann (1847-1935), and publisher Leopold Ullstein (1826-99) are all buried here.
