Description
Installed in a former convent, this cultural centre dedicated to the minerals of Pará has a fascinating Gem Museum and a charitable association selling local crafts. An extraordinary 2.5t quartz crystal that was found in the Rio Araguaia presides at the entrance, and is followed by a beautiful display of Amerindian ceramics and jewellery. Finally, a comprehensive series of specimens illustrates the extraordinary mineral wealth of the Pará: amethysts, emeralds, fossilised wood and an opalescent quartz crystal that is the only one of its kind in the world.
