Located in the old Fort Matachín, this museum offers the ideal opportunity to learn more about Baracoa. It provides information on the region's natural landscapes, such as the Yunque mountain and River Toa, and also traces the history of the Taïnos Indians, a pre-Columbian people who settled here two centuries before the Spanish, and the Haitian families who came here in the 18C. It also recounts the legend of "Pelú", and the misery this bushy-beaded vagabond inflicted on the town in the late 19C.
