Useful information

Description

The castle was the main residence of the O'Connor clan, who controlled the lion's share of north Kerry. Previously located on an island, it was built on the banks of the Shannon in 1649. One of the defensive towers is now a dovecot. A spiral staircase leads to the top of the tower (26m), which commands a view over the whole Shannon Estuary.
