Useful information

Description

Surrounded by skyscrapers, this restored house, nicknamed "the dump" by Margaret Mitchell (1900-49), the author from Atlanta who wrote the novel Gone with the Wind (1936), is the city's only surviving building with a connection to the author and her epic novel of the Civil War. Visitors can view the tiny, ground-floor apartment where the author lived from 1925-32 and where she wrote her famous novel. The museum, which opened in 1999, exhibits memorabilia, props and footage from the 1939 film.
